The South African National Archery Association Gold Squad Programme is committed to the ongoing development and sustenance of a pool of talented archers with a view to further improving South Africa's international standing in the sport. The Gold Squad Programme has a dedicated manager tasked to achieve the goals of the programme and focuses its activities in a number of areas including elite athlete development, managing and supporting squad activities. It is widely recognised that, in order to become the best, athletes must be given every opportunity and all encouragement possible. That is why the Gold Squad is active in both national and international tournaments, with the goal of strengthening the archer's ability to competitively shoot international formats at a world class standard. Sanctioned tournament scores are monitored on a regular basis and archers selected based on set selection criteria. The programme is guided by the Elite Squad policy document which is reviewed from time to time.
