Mpumalanga SANAA Indoor Championships

For the first time Olifantsfontein Club in Middelburg was hosting the Mpumalanga SANAA Indoor Championships and as the procedure was new to them, I was honoured to be invited to ensure the smooth running of the event and teach them the ropes. Kobie du Preez, a Provincial judge, was there to officiate, so once the range had been checked and a few rules explained by her, we were off to a good start. Being new in the area, the entry was not a big one, but all who were there put their best arrows forward and completed their ranking event of 60 arrows without a hitch. Congratulations to those of you who broke records in your respective styles – a great achievement indeed!

Aurelle Medalie repoprts that Bellavista School has been running the Feather and Arrow Beginners Programme quite successfully for some time now and as each young archer achieves a certain level, they have been awarded their Feather or Arrow pins. I was honoured to be invited to their assembly on the 20th August to hand out these awards to the kids who had qualified. First up were the Red Feathers and, as the principal called their names, they were very excited to come up and be presented with their pin. There were at least 15 Red Feathers awarded. Next up were those who had qualified for their Gold as well as Red Feathers.

South Africa Takes Silver in CM World Cup

This final featured the no. 13 against the no. 19 from qualifications! The 21-year-old TEASDALE has competed on the World Cup circuit since 2008. He placed 9th in Antalya and 8th in Ogden this year. Koos DE WET competes in his very first World Cup event here in Shanghai. He is new on the FITA circuit and his major achievement so far is a 2nd place at the African Continental Championships in April Pretoria. Shaun TEASDALE won the first set 10-10-x10 to x10-8-9. He was perfect again in the second set, but the margin was closer this time (30-29). DE WET shot 29 points again in the third set to tie his opponent. The score moved to 5-1 for the archer from New Zealand. The match concluded with another set at 29 points from both archers. TEASDALE reached 6 set points to win the gold medal. SANAA Congratulates Koos on this achievement.

I have competed in bowhunting before and have already won the most important IFAA events. I have only started shooting FITA competitions last year. I wanted to take up a new challenge and see what I could do under the FITA format. I’m not familiar with the big archery names but I had heard about my opponent Jorge JIMENEZ. Luckily I shot good scores against him”.
