Target Archery in South Africa

The South African National Archery Association (SANAA) is the national sports federation for target archery in South Africa. It is affiliated to a number of sporting bodies, including the international governing body FITA, SASCOC, the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee, and Archery South Africa.

The SANAA committee consists of Executive members and Representatives from the Provincial bodies. Through the national federation, our archers participate internationally. SANAA presents target events on a national level and indoor events on a provincial level. A wide variety of disciplines and equipment styles are catered for during National Championships.

Getting Started

If you want to take up archery, your first port of call should be your local club, where you will find experienced archers willing and able to help. There are SANAA affiliated clubs in all the provinces. You don’t need any equipment, as it will be supplied by the club. Try different sizes of bows and arrows and shooting different distances. Archers are always ready to share an opinion or some experience on what one may need. Once you have joined a club, you are invited to SANAA membership.

The job entails working together with the Treasurer who takes responsibility for the financial affairs for SANAA. National Archery School Program

There has been a high level of interest in starting a formal national archery schools program which would bind together all the initiatives currently underway, and in partnership with the education authorities. The aim is to promote student education, physical education and participation in the life long sport of Archery. The program’s focus would be to provide International Style Target Archery training in physical education classes grades 4 - 12. If you feel that you could contribute towards this initiative, contact the SANAA Secretary.
